Built Form and Landscape Survey Form
This information is for residents who live in the Weston Heritage Conservation District's Phase 2 Study Area
. If you're not sure if this applies to you, please visit www.heritageweston.com
, click on the "Research" button on the sidebar, open the "Area Map" and determine if your house is located within the orange border
. If it is, please read on. Even if you don't live in Phase 2, we invite you to check out what we've been up to.
We have reached an exciting stage in our research, which is necessary for the designation of the Phase 2 Study Area as a Heritage Conservation District. As part of our ongoing effort to establish the District, we must document all that we can about each house and who has lived in it, including its architecture and landscaping. It's a huge job - very time consuming for our researchers - and we need your help.
A "Built Form and Landscape Survey Form" has been created to gather information directly from Phase 2 residents.
It is available in three formats: Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader and HTML. You can view and print a copy by clicking on one of the three links shown immediately below. In addition, you can obtain a detailed "Guide to Completing the Survey
" by clicking the "Forms Help" button on the left sidebar (look under the heading "Research").
You will see that it is a lengthy form. The reason: Last year Toronto Preservation Services, which oversees the establishment of Conservation Districts, developed the booklet "Policies, Procedures and Terms of Reference for Conservation Districts in Toronto
". This is a long title for an equally long document that basically calls for three times the information that used to be required to designate an area. Three times the information means three times the research. This is why the Survey Form is so detailed. We know it may take some time to complete, but we ask that you fill in as much as you can. You do not have to be absolutely sure about the validity of your information. It will be verified afterwards, if necessary. That is why it is important that you enter the source of your information. Stories, copies of surveys, photographs, past deeds, plans etc. would also be greatly appreciated.
Once you have printed and completed the Survey Form, you can drop it off at my address (153 King Street, Weston), or phone me (see below) and I will pick it up.
We are in the process of building an online database at www.heritageweston.com where, once you have registered as a member and received your password, you will be able to create and maintain an information sheet for your house that you can add to or edit anytime. Our security system will ensure that only you and our administrators can access your information. The database should be operational in April 2013.
In the meantime, to assist us in our immediate research, we would appreciate it if you would complete the Survey Form manually. Later, you can transfer the information to your WHCD account. By filling out and returning the Survey to us, not only will you speed up our research, you will also make a significant contribution to your community.
We welcome your comments, positive or negative, or questions. This is meant to be a community building exercise, so we want to know how people feel about it.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
